About the Institute

The Cuban Broadcasting Institute was founded on May 24, 1962. In 1975, it changed its name to the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television (ICRT, for its Spanish acronym), but retained the same responsibilities.

In June 2019, the creation of a Permanent Working Group (PWG) was proposed to devise the necessary proposals of actions for establishing the Institute of Information and Social Communication (ICS, for its Spanish acronym). The ICS is the agency responsible for carrying out and overseeing the implementation of the Cuban State and Government’s Social Communication Policy.

Through Decree-Law 41/2021, on August 24, 2021, the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television was dissolved, and the Institute of Information and Social Communication (ICS) was established as an Agency of the Central Administration of the State.

On May 25, 2023, the Social Communication Law was adopted following a broad and rigorous process of collective construction, and the First Level of Management was appointed.
